Questions
Short answers. Limits included.
When can I buy one?
Not yet, and there is no date. It goes on sale when a working demo exists and enough people want it to fund a production run. The waitlist hears first.
Is there a subscription?
No. The model runs on hardware you own, so there is no server cost to cover. You buy the device. That's it.
How is it private?
Everything runs on the device, and it works fully offline. If you ask for something that needs a connection and one is available, it uses it for that request. No account, no telemetry, nothing collected. The firmware goes open source at release, so that can be checked.
How fast is it?
On the RK3588, a request becomes a device command in 2.8 s on average (16 Sep, 22 calls, max 4.95 s). That is text input. Speech recognition is not yet running on this chip, so spoken end-to-end latency isn't measured yet. The benchmarks have the conditions.
How good is it?
30/30 on the routing eval. v4 scored 27/30 on device types it had never seen in training. On 294 held-out phrasings, wrong actions fell from 33 to 11 between v4 and v5. It is not a frontier chatbot and doesn't pretend to be.
Why not use my phone?
If a cloud assistant works for you, keep it. It knows more. TaqaBuddy is for places with no coverage, for people who don't trust the cloud, and for operating your own things without three companies in the loop.
What can it control?
Whatever is in its registry, and you decide what goes in. No approved list. IR first: TVs, fans, AC units and everything else with an IR remote. Radio through an optional module.
What if it mishears me?
Doors, locks, gates and the garage ask first. Only a plain yes releases them. A new request instead of a yes drops the held action. And it only operates what you set up yourself.
What about the camera?
Designed in. Nothing uses it yet, so we don't call it a feature.
Can I write my own device definitions?
Yes, that's the design. The format will be public, the firmware goes open source at release, and the hardware has an expansion header.
